Packet Pick-up will still take place on August 27-28, 2020, at the Lakeland Police Department between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. We have arranged for this process to be a drive-thru, so you will not have to exit your vehicle. Once you arrive, you will simply provide your name, and we will have volunteers (masked and gloved) process your registration and provide you with your bag, t-shirt, and race bib. If needed, we will still have volunteers available to register those who need to be registered, but we ask that everyone conduct this online to limit exposure to others.

We are excited to move forward with this important event that will continue to raise funds in support of our men and women in public safety roles. This year’s theme focused on Mental Health Awareness is more important than ever. 2020 has certainly been a challenging year for all of us, both personally and professionally.
We have been monitoring the COVID-19 Pandemic very carefully and the impact this virus has caused to our families and Lakeland businesses. We felt our most important decision was to ensure each participant's safety in our event and in conversation with our partners, FITniche, we believe we have arrived at an alternate solution to allow the Fallen Heroes Memorial 5K to continue.
On August 29, 2020, we will be hosting a "modified" Fallen Heroes Memorial 5k!
Participants will be provided with a specific time period of 4 hours (between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.) to run the 2020 Fallen Heroes Memorial 5K, on the familiar Three-Parks Trail starting just north of the Lakeland YMCA and ending at Peterson Park. There will be no single official start times or waves; runners will simply be allowed to show up during this 4-hour time period, exit their vehicles and immediately run the 5K, which will still be chip-timed by FITniche. This will allow us to continue with this meaningful fundraiser while allowing for social distancing and limited contact.
Once the participants cross the finish line, they will be greeted by several foundation volunteers (masked and gloved) who will hand out participant medals. There will be no official race village or post-race activities for this event; however, water and healthy snacks will be available near the finish line. Participants are encouraged to assist us in practicing social distancing after completing their run. Once the event is complete, FITniche will tabulate the final race results, and the top three finishers in each age category will be notified of their achievements by the Lakeland Police Foundation and FITniche. Winners can choose to pick up their placement medal at the Lakeland Police Department the following week or have it mailed to their home.
We believe this is the best option, given our current circumstances, to keep everyone as safe as possible and still hold this 5K event. We are glad we can still provide everyone with the opportunity to participate, while still exercising extreme caution for everyone's well-being.
This event is rain or shine, but we do have a plan in place for inclement weather. There will be no cancellation or refunds due to the weather, nor is there a make-up date scheduled. Participant safety is our number one concern.
The parking areas for the event will be in the grassy areas on the south side of the YMCA. Volunteers will be in the parking area to assist. Please DO NOT park in the YMCA lot or at the veterinary clinic next door! You may be towed if you park in these areas.
Every participant will receive a finisher medal.
Placement medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age 5-year age bracket.
